Smell The Pines 2023
Deluxe Tent

Accommodations

Standard Issue Accommodations

Once again you can take advantage of the deluxe accommodations offered for Smell the Pines by Troop 25 at Camp Kirkham. We know you’ll agree it’s hard to beat a bunk in a patrol tent. If you will recall the bunks are of a steel frame construction with a wire mesh net-like system that serves as box spring and mattress and is strung up and attached to the frame by springs. We offer two levels of comfort accomodations:

Deluxe Accommodations- a deluxe bunk has 80% or more of it’s springs present, in place, and working.

Budget Accommodations- a budget bunk will have on average only 60% of it’s springs attached. What this means is that there will be large gaps where the wire mesh attaches to the steel frame through which your body will eventurally slip since it’s the lowest point. Whatever part or your body this may be will have the circulation cut off by the steel frame and you will wake up often. You will also run the risk of having your air mattress popped.

Living Rough- the photo below says it all.

If you stay at Camp Kirkham, and most do, you will need the following:

  • Air mattress
  • Pillow
  • Sleeping bag

The above three items are ranked in order of importance. You may not need a sleeping bag in early August and you may be able to sleep without a pillow but you won’t sleep at all without an air mattress. As long as you bring an air mattress you’ll be fine. You should also consider the following:

  • Clothing suitable down to 45 degrees
  • Rain gear
  • Bathing suit
  • Towel
  • Flashlight
  • Canteen money
  • Contraband items for trading

The above are not ranked in order of importance. However, if you recall, in the underground economy of camp some items can be bartered. Canteen will have no limits for STP so you cannot trade your canteen privileges.
